The most important decision you can ever make in life is to choose to follow Jesus Christ. What does that mean exactly? Following Jesus simply means that we live with the aim to become more like Jesus every day of our lives. And that journey begins with a simple “yes.”

We say “yes” to the belief that, as humans, we are separated from God the Father because of our sin. We recognize that Jesus was born both completely human and completely God, lived a perfect life, was crucified on a cross as a sacrifice for our own sins, died and was buried. But most importantly, we believe that Jesus defeated death in His resurrection. After three days, Jesus rose to life and in doing so, He gives us the opportunity to have eternal life.

The blood of Jesus Christ, shed on the cross, provides the only way of salvation through the forgiveness of sin. Salvation occurs when we say “yes” to following Jesus by accepting His death on the cross and the forgiveness that it brings. 

Have you said “yes” to Jesus? If you believe this in your heart, the Bible instructs us to confess it with our mouth. You can do this by praying a prayer like this one below:

“Dear Jesus –

I know that I am a sinner in need of a savior. I ask you to forgive me of my sins. I believe that you died on a cross to save me of my sins and that you rose from the grave to give me new life in you. I ask you to be the Lord of my life. I ask to receive your Holy Spirit to lead and guide me all the days of my life. I am yours. In the name of Jesus I pray,  Amen.”

“You Said Yes” is a course offered for new believers or for those with a desire to better understand what it looks like to be a follower of Jesus. In this two-hour course, you will be provided with an overview of the Christian life. Together we will explore three questions.

1. What does it mean to follow Jesus?
2. What does it look like to live like Jesus lived?
3. What does it look like to love like Jesus loved?

Join us on Sunday evenings as we look explore these topics together. It’s a joy to walk alongside you and to help you get started in your new life with Christ.

Water baptism is simply an outward expression of our inward decision to accept Jesus as our Savior. Through water baptism, we are able to share in Christ’s death and resurrection to new life.

After we say “yes” to Jesus, the Bible tells us that our next step is to go public with our faith by sharing it with others. The first way we do that is to be water baptized.

At Island Church, we encourage everyone who has chosen to walk with Jesus to be baptized and in doing so, we ask three questions.

1. 1. Have you asked Jesus to forgive you of your sins? When we say this, we are acknowledging that we have messed up and done things that are harmful to ourselves and those around us. We recognize that because of our mistakes, we have a broken relationship with God and His Word. We accept that only God can wash away our guilt and the shame through the forgiveness of our sins. 
   2. Have you asked Jesus to be your Lord? This means that we acknowledge God’s control over our lives. We give Him authority and His rightful place to move and work in our lives.
   3. Have you asked Jesus to be your Savior? We can’t save ourselves. In recognizing Jesus as our personal Savior, we stop trying to save or fix ourselves, and we accept Jesus’ gift of grace that is freely given to all who would receive it.

As we go down to Kim Sha Beach as a church family, we celebrate everyone who chooses to be buried with Christ in baptism. And as each emerges from the water, we celebrate that they are raised to walk in the newness of life.

Throughout His ministry, Jesus surrounded Himself with people who could encourage Him, pray for Him, and support Him. Yes, Jesus was their Savior, but He was also their friend. We recognize that if Jesus chose to do life in the context of relationships, it is a good idea for us to do likewise.
